What I’ve Learned in 365 Days
by NGY Owner/CEO Amy Lee
It’s been 365 days since I took on the roles of owner and CEO of Next Generation Yoga. From the word “go,” I had a clear vision of where I wanted to take the business. Some things worked as planned; most things didn’t.
But this isn’t a bad thing. It’s deeper validation that things happen for a reason and that fluidity is a necessary characteristic in business and life.
Now that I’ve safely landed at the one-year anniversary mark, I can reflect on the accomplishments I am most proud of.
- Our teacher trainings are successfully and gracefully online (giant exhale and squeal!).
- The entire portfolio of trainings and resources are fresh, updated, relevant, and comprehensive.
- The NGY team is gold.
None of these were easy or simple or without blood, sweat, and tears. It’s taken every one of those 365 days to successfully bring these accomplishments to fruition.

Am I a better person for having put myself “out there” and taken big risks? I don’t know how one makes that assessment about one’s self. What I can say for sure is that I am a better yoga and mindfulness teacher, I am a better leader. I am more educated. I am stronger, I am healthier, I am more resilient, I am more patient, I am intellectually deeper and wider. I am more blessed than ever.
Next on deck for NGY is officially launching EVOLvED – our passion project for yoga + mindfulness in schools that resulted in two comprehensive curriculums for education professionals and yoga professionals. It’s nothing short of a masterpiece (I can say this because my team created it, not me!). The science behind yoga has never been more FUN! The benefits of yoga have never been more important. You won’t want to miss this.
Just to be clear, my role and what I’ve written here isn’t about ME. It’s about how my passion to bring goodness to the world, specifically the next generation, through yoga and mindfulness, has given me the opportunity to grow, give, live, love, feel, doubt, cheer, cry, laugh, crumble, and a lot of other things. It’s not all rosy. We are adults, so we know that. Yet having a purpose, something that drives me every day to do better and to help others, is a gift I’m grateful for.
What is your passion? What’s driving you forward? Are there risks and opportunities in front of you that you’re considering? I’d love to hear what you have in store for yourselves. And you can bet that whatever it is, I’ll be cheering you on! Believe in yourself, believe in your dreams. And be kind to yourself and others along the way.
With love,
Amy Lee
