Wednesday Walk ~ Feel Your Feelings, and Feel Better! :)

On today’s walk, I share about feelings. I have noticed that when I allow myself to acknowledge and fully feel my feelings instead of ignoring or suppressing them, I feel better. Sometimes the tendency might be to avoid or even numb uncomfortable feelings (sadness, fear, anger, or resentment), but if we actually feel the feelings and allow them to move through us we can feel more at ease. Please enjoy this week’s video blog as I share a personal story about how I have moved through some uncomfortable feelings I have been experiencing.

    Hi Jodi. I wanted to thank you for sharing what you are experiencing right now with your dad. I know the fear and sadness that you feel around this news must be enourmous…my dad had that same surgery about 23 years ago and he is still up and around and doing well. 🙂 At that time, I was 20, and not as connected to what I was feeling as I am now. So, I thank you for sharing your feelings, acknowledging them yourself and encouraging others to do the same.
    As a psychotherapist and couples therapist, learning to feel ones feelings is something I work on daily with clients, and also with myself- not only can we learn to know ourselves better but the more comfortable we get with our feelings, the more we can learn about others as well.     Hi Jodi, I enjoyed watching your blog. Thank you for sharing, it’s very touching. I wish you a lot of strength through this difficult time and all the best to your dad.
    The best way for me on how to deal with difficult emotions is to talk about them, share them. It is not always easy and some people are not prepared to hear them, but as you said it is healthier to get them out of your system and deal with them. They don’t disappear by enchantment. The challenging thing is to open up in a loving way without hurting anyone and be gentle with oneself.

    My thoughts are with you and your family as your father undergoes his recovery. This video blog on feelings touched me – it’s something I think about often, and struggle with as far as my own spirituality. I’ve always maintained that feelings come to us for a reason, yet I’ve recently understood that I need to be more conscious and deliberate of the choices I make that stem from these feelings, and allow my actions to be ruled by love, rather than selfishness. Capiche? 🙂

    Dear Jodi,

    My best wishes and prayers are with you, your dad and your family. I hope he recovers fast- he’s lucky to have so much love and support around him.

    As for feeling your fellings, you are so right about allowing them to come up and out of us. All my life I’ve supressed my feelings thinking it’s not appropriate to show them, especially “negative” ones like anger, fear. Now I’m aware of the fact that it’s poisonous to do so and it piles up so much energy inside. Your suggestion about acknowledging them is so true- at least admitting that you are angry, sad, afraid etc. And then if it’s possible expressing them so they leave you for good. I’ve also found out that breathing exercises is a good way to transform the energy of the feeling. I try to do vigorous breathing like fire breaths when I find myself upset or worried about something. Then I find out that the feeling is not as intense.
