Wednesday Walk ~ Our Vulnerability is our Greatest Asset

Happy Wednesday friends!

On today’s ‘Wednesday Walk’, I share about the power of being vulnerable. Years ago I learned that when we allow ourselves to be seen, it inspires others to do the same. Recently I had an experience of being vulnerable when I shared on Facebook about some stuff that has been going on in my otherwise-blessed life. And it was awesome because I received a tremendous amount of inspiration and support from others, including from people who are also going through some rough times. This reaffirmed for me that it’s so important to be vulnerable, as it invites others to be honest and truthful as well. Check out my ‘Wednesday Walk’ to learn more about how letting ourselves be seen through the ups and downs of life is essential for having authentic relationships.

I would love to hear from you. When you are expressing yourself as being vulnerable, how do other people show up? Please leave a comment on the blog so we can all learn from you!

When I share my Poetry I find others relate and enjoy it and their hearts open up
When I meditate and others do too it becomes a Community of vulnerable people
When I share my story and find others are touched they see the courageous art of being vulnerable! I think it makes others wish to be vulnerable too~ there is a deep beauty about it and a childlike trust~too!

Being aware of our personal vulnerability offers us connection to others. Vulnerability is a bridge to cultivating compassion. We are all in this boat together. YaY! 🙂

Another way I like to express vulnerability is to say “Speaking from the Heart”. In the generation that preceded mine, protecting your real feelings about yourself was considered a way to protect your privacy and your pride. From very early on, I found this a very uncomfortable way to be, and it made me feel out of sync with myself. So I gave up on it, and just began to share my true thoughts about myself. And though it may not have stood me well in some instances, 1.e. at times in my working environment, it has overwhelmingly been a positive experience. People are more responsive; there is more trust, people feel safer and you are more apt to be understood. You almost can’t go wrong by “speaking from your heart” since in the end it is who you are. And what a great feeling it is to be liked for “who you are”! You encourage people to be nonjudgmental, because as Jody says, they in turn are more apt to be more open with themselves, maybe not then and there, but maybe the next time you meet. Just to clarify, I am referring to expressing your own vulnerabilities as Jody speaks about, but never at the expense of lacking sensitivity to the feelings of others.

Yes, dear Jodi–it is good to be authentic. I am not sure that it is always received well by people who are not listening or who are carrying anger in their hearts. But showing up “real” yourself and allowing your presence to speak its’ own truth is very powerful. I am finding this transition in
myself, when I am able to say what I feel without fear, but with grace. It does open the hearts of others. Loving you, Dearie.
