No matter what the start of school looks like for you and your kids this year, one thing is for certain – there’s a lot of uncertainty! Parents, teachers, administrators, school support staff, and KIDS are all struggling with hard decisions and coming to terms with what will be a very different school environment this fall.
Whatever your classroom looks like this year, I invite you and your kids/students to embrace it and choose to make the absolute best of it! Yes, having a positive attitude is a choice, and it can go a long way towards helping you navigate the tough days (and yes, there will be tough days.) If it doesn’t come easily or naturally to you, don’t worry – it doesn’t come naturally to many of us.
Practicing yoga + mindfulness helps you check in with your thoughts throughout the day. When you find yourself thinking negatively, acknowledge the negative thought and think of a way to turn it around.
Affirmations are a great way to turn negative self-talk into something more positive and uplifting. Think of it as giving yourself mini pep talks throughout the day – go ahead and cheer yourself on because you deserve it! Affirmations can be spoken aloud or done silently in your mind and can be customized for any situation or feeling.
A few examples are:
- I am a problem solver.
- I can do this.
- I am peaceful and calm.
- I am open to new ideas.
- I am brave enough to try
Coloring can also be a great way to calm the mind and help relieve anxiety. Download this affirmation coloring sheet to use at home or in your classroom and get the benefits of both practices in one!
