Each month we feature a ROCKSTAR for The Biz of Kids Yoga (TBoKY).
A TBoKY ROCKSTAR is a Kids Yoga & Mindfulness leader who makes a unique impact
in their community.
Say Hello to October’s TBoKY ROCKSTAR:
Emily Fleming of Emily Fleming Yoga
Hey Emily, tell us about your Kids Yoga biz!
I’m a M.A.T., RYT-200, RCYT Yoga teacher and educator in Baltimore, Maryland. I’m currently teaching Yoga and Mindfulness full-time at a middle school in Baltimore, weaving lessons on character development into the practices. I also lead an online course for Kids Yoga teachers called “Land Your Dream Job Teaching Yoga in Schools” for those who want to teach in schools but are looking for tools to communicate with principals, navigate school budgets and so much more! I also offer a one-on-one mentorship program for teachers already teaching in schools who are looking to refine and hone their teaching skills in new ways.
A TBoKY ROCKSTAR is committed to their Kids Yoga Biz with leadership and contribution to community … What makes you a TBoKY ROCKSTAR?
I live and breathe Kids Yoga! After taking The Biz of Kids Yoga™ (TBoKY), I manifested my dream job teaching Yoga as a full-time enrichment class in a middle school! I’m finally at the point where I’m able to focus on sharing my knowledge with other Kids Yoga teachers to help them build their own businesses and land their dream jobs. There is so much need for Yoga and Mindfulness in our schools, and there are so many Kids Yoga teachers looking to offer their services in schools, but they don’t always know where to start. I’m committed to training teachers because I’m committed to creating the next generation of mindful citizens!
What are you currently most excited about in your biz right now?
I’m excited about the 6-week online training I’m offering for the first time which started on Oct. 10th! This training will empower 5 Kids Yoga teachers with the tools they need to land their dream job teaching Yoga in schools.
What is a personal habit or resource that contributes to your success and that you would highly recommend to other Kids Yoga Teachers?
Self-care. When it comes to teaching in schools and working with kids, I’m only as good as I’m feeling. I have to take care of myself if I’m going to be present for my students in the way that they deserve. It may seem obvious, but it’s something that a lot of teachers (and Yoga teachers!) struggle to make time for, but it is absolutely essential! Figure out what self-care looks like to you and carve out time for it every day.
How has The Biz of Kids Yoga influenced your business?
Quite simply, I wouldn’t be where I am today, doing the work that I’m doing if it weren’t for The Biz of Kids Yoga™. I took the course 4 years ago, when I knew I needed a change, but wasn’t sure how, or where, or what it would look like. TBoKY helped me get clear on what I wanted to do, and Jodi gave me the push to DO IT! Now that I’m running trainings for teachers, I’m working with Jodi once again, and using so many of the strategies we talked about in TBoKY to build this next iteration of my business
