Why do you teach Next Generation Yoga?
I teach Next Generation Yoga because I believe it is so incredibly important to provide children with tools that will help them be successful in their everyday lives and in their futures. Practicing Yoga helps children regulate their emotions, notice their thoughts in a nonjudgmental way, and empowers them to reach for the stars, all while having fun!
How do you practice Yoga off the mat?
Off the mat, I practice Yoga with my fourth-grade students in our classroom! We use Yoga and mindful movements to help us take brain breaks throughout our brain. In addition, I practice Yoga off my mat by using positive affirmations and noticing my breathing daily. Using affirmations, or positive saying helps remind me that even if things aren’t going how I hoped, everything will be okay! Noticing my breath helps bring me back to calmness when I start slipping into my “stressed out mode.”
What is your special gift in connecting with children?
I have always felt a bond with children, which inspired me to pursue a career working with them. Now, as a special education teacher, Yoga instructor, and tutor I get to inspire and empower kids every day! From these experiences, my special gift in connecting with children is finding their uniqueness and embracing it! I believe that each child has something unique that they can share with the world if they have someone to help them acknowledge and celebrate it.
