Why do you teach Next Generation Yoga?
I am beyond excited to share my love of yoga and the way it makes me feel with children. It not only increases physical and mental awareness, it helps to relieve anxiety and anger and improves self-control. As an elementary teacher of 20 years, I know the importance of these benefits. I want to create a calm and fun environment for all children attending my Next Generation Yoga classes.
How do you practice yoga off the mat?
I have created a habit of meditating every morning and every night. It allows me to decompress and disconnect with my fast paced world in the evening and it allows me to prepare for each day with calmness and fresh breath in the morning. In addition, I use yoga in the classroom when I see my students are very fidgety and talkative. I sneak in a quick stretch and then get them back on track.
What do you do when are not teaching NGY classes?
I am a wife and mother of two awesome boys. I work at an elementary school teaching K-5 kids how to improve their reading skills. I also teach a Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates class called Body Flow four times a week. I teach at a university twice a week and at a gym twice a week. I am also a group fitness manager at the gym where I teach as well.
What is your special gift in connecting with children?
Seeing kids smile and enjoy learning about the poses and how to calm their minds is my reward. That is the gift they give to me. Every child is unique and learns and absorbs new information in their own way. Seeing the differentiated ways of learning makes me so happy.
