Each month we spotlight one of our AMAZING Next Generation Yoga Trainers
so you can see a little of what makes them shine!
Say Hello to December’s Featured Trainer:
Read on for a Q&A with Amy!
Next Generation Yoga Trainer for School-Based Educators – LIVE!
Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
A: I have a tattoo of a self-portrait my daughter drew in preschool on my shoulder. Scroll down if you want a peek. 🙂
Q: What was your first experience with Next Generation Yoga?
A: My first experience was the Next Generation Yoga Teacher Training for 2-7 yr. olds with Charlotte Light at Yoga Home. Feeling an instant connection to the NGY Philosophy, and with the support of NGY Founder Jodi Komitor, the amazing NGY Trainers and NGY Teacher Community, I soon also completed the NGY Teacher Training for 8-13 yr. olds, and the NGY Teacher Training for School-Based Educators – Online.
Wanting to focus on incorporating Yoga & Mindfulness into schools, a natural next step for me was to complete the Train-the-Trainer program so I can lead the NGY Teacher Training for School-Based Educators – LIVE! myself.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: An artist, and sometimes and archaeologist (Indiana Jones made it look so cool!). I did ultimately become a graphic designer, but I have yet to discover any ancient lost cities.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone wanting to or currently teaching Yoga to Kids?
A: Learn to read the classroom energy and adjust accordingly! This is always a work in progress for me – to deviate from the Lesson Plan I’d prepared and go “off-script”. I’m a planner! But there’s no question that if the kids aren’t feeling it, no one is going to enjoy that class, including (or, maybe especially) me. Sometimes you have to stop, throw the Lesson Plan out the window, and see where the kids lead the class.
My oldest daughter’s pre-school self-portrait, titled “Rocket Boots” after her footwear of choice in the picture. 🙂
