Three months ago, I became a certified in Next Generation Yoga. You guys! Five years ago, I had never even done yoga in my life. Cardio was my jam and I thought I could never silence myself enough to get through a yoga class. Then, I was diagnosed with MS.
Here’s the thing: After my initial episode and recovery which lasted about eight weeks, I was completely fine and you wouldn’t even know about that I had MS, but I am a rule follower and yoga was highly recommended for people with MS, so I gave it a try. I have fallen in love with yoga over the past four years and have integrated it into my exercise routine every week.

Fast forward to the NGY training that was taking place at our local yoga studio (Bexley Yoga & Barre) in my little city. I have my MSW and am a Licensed Independent Social Worker. I have been working with children for over 20 years and, for the past 15, have done early intervention in a private preschool. I am a resource any time there is a concern about behavior or development for over 450 children spanning three sites.

Over the past couple of years, the needs of the children I work with have increased across the board and I am always looking for some new tools in my toolbox. When the opportunity arose to become a certified Next Generation Yoga teacher, I knew this was what was next for me. The experience in itself was amazing, and what has happened since has been nothing short of extraordinary.
I began teaching weekly at the preschool where I work and every day I have multiple children asking me if it’s “yoga day.” I have parents stop me in the hall or when I am out in the community, telling me how much their kids are loving yoga. They are actually talking about it at home, which we know doesn’t always happen, and teachers are checking in with me during the week to confirm when the next yoga class will be.
